1) International Mixer and Social
Date: Friday, February 17, 2006
Time: 8:30am to 10:30am

- Approximately 20 – 30 international students will come, Gloria can help advertising

- Stacy and Brian will meet Judith at A255 to help bring some stuffs such as napkins and tea to the cafeteria

- Availability of people
- Stacy: 8am to 9:30am
- Brian: 8am to 10:30am
- Fiona: 8:30am to 10:30am
- Shunsik(Gloria): 8:30am to 10:30am
- Alice: 8:30am to 10:30am
- Mark: 8:30am to 10:30am

- Food
- everybody is bringing something

- Schedule for the event
8.30-8.45 : - Mix the students and have them sit in tables or gather in a circle
- questions for discernment/small groups
8.45-8.55 - General introductions
- What do you do for fun???
- When you eat breakfast, what do you eat?
- How/What do you say for ello?in your language??What does it mean literally?
8.45-8.50 – Slang skits
- Brian and Stacy will explain Sick
- Mark and Alice will explain IMO
8.50-9.00 - Sitting at tables and have discussions
- What do these slang terms MEAN???
- What are slang terms in YOUR country???
- American students: Try to explain the meaning of the following words (such as IMO, Corny, Sweet, Cool, Hot, Sick, Gross, Wicked, Groovy, Awesome, Funky, Cowabunga, Neat, Drag, Swell, Bad) to international students
- International students: explain their slang in their own country
9.00-9.10 - In depth discussion (pick one):
- Compare/contrast education and classroom environment in America with education in their countries? Give examples.
- What is the classroom like in your country?? How is it different from the BCC classroom environment?
- Compare/contrast (if possible) business in America with business in their countries? Give examples.
- Do you know what business are like in your country? How is it different from the USA business?
- Compare/contrast family life in America for a college student compared to family life for a college student in their countries? Do all countries have the Department or dorm? Experience for their college students?? Give examples.
- When student graduates from High School, what happens (move out? Stay home?)
9.10-9.25 - Build: Using toothpicks and mini marshmallows or Graham Crackers and Icing to make a landmark (Space Needle)
9.30-10.15 - Continue building and discussing additional questions about differences in culture. May repeat some ice breakers or skits.
10.15-10.30: clean up

- There may be prizes (candies) for the competition
